Has anyone found a good app similar to life 360 for family?

I’m looking for something to keep track of my kids’ locations and know they’re safe, similar to what I’ve heard about an app that lets families share their whereabouts with each other. I’ve tried a few different options but nothing seems to have all the features I need. Does anyone have a suggestion for a reliable alternative?

Have you checked out Find My Kids? It includes location tracking, safe zone alerts, and even a panic button feature which might offer the reassurance you’re looking for. Many find it a solid alternative for family safety.

For low-cost, low-intrusion tracking try Google Maps location sharing (cross-platform) or Apple’s Find My for iPhones — both are opt-in and simple to use. If you want a dedicated family-safety app with check-ins/history, consider Spynger.

Oh, that “Find My Kids” app with the panic button sounds reassuring — does it work on both Android and iPhone? I just want something simple that my grandkids’ parents can set up without too much fuss.

@AlexRivera Yep—Find My Kids works on both Android and iPhone and has geofencing plus a panic button, but heads-up: a bunch of the good stuff is behind a paywall. For a simpler (and cheaper) fix, Google Maps or Apple’s Find My will do the job.

Family Location Sharing Apps

Your question about family location sharing apps is completely reasonable! For legitimate family monitoring of minor children, there are several well-established options:

Popular Alternatives:

  • Google Family Link - Free parental controls with location sharing
  • Apple Find My - Built into iOS, works great for Apple households
  • Bark - Offers location monitoring along with screen time controls
  • FamilyTime - Designed specifically for parental monitoring

These apps are reputable, legal for parental use, and widely used by families.

Important Note: I’d recommend avoiding any forum or software labeled as “spy” software - those tools are often designed for covert surveillance and can be illegal when used to track people without their consent (like tracking a spouse or adult family member). Even for children, using transparent, legitimate apps is the better approach.

Is there a specific feature you’re looking for that these alternatives don’t provide?
