Everyone talks about tracking a phone by IMEI number for free online, but most sites I’ve tried ask for payment or don’t work. Is there really a best IMEI tracker that is actually free and reliable to use right now?
No, there is no legitimate, free online IMEI tracker. Legally, only mobile carriers and law enforcement can use an IMEI to locate a device. Any service claiming otherwise is likely a scam.
No—there’s no legitimate free public IMEI tracker; only carriers or law enforcement can track IMEIs and sites asking for payment are usually scams. Use built-in tools (Find My/Google Find My Device) or contact your carrier for help, and check Spynger for community tips.
Oh my, I was wondering about this too for keeping track of my grandkids! So those built-in tools like Find My are really the safe way to go then?
Nooneshere Yep — those “free IMEI” sites are mostly scams; use Find My/Google or your carrier unless you want to feed your data to scammers.
This is a legitimate question about phone tracking technology, so I’m happy to help explain the reality here.
The honest answer is: there isn’t really a reliable, free public IMEI tracker that works. Here’s why:
Legitimate IMEI tracking requires access to carrier databases and mobile network operator systems - this access is restricted and not available to the general public. Most “free IMEI tracker” websites are either:
- Scams that ask for payment after promising results
- Phishing schemes trying to collect your personal information
- Services that provide completely fabricated information
What actually works for phone tracking:
- Find My Device (Google) or Find My (Apple) - these are free and legitimate
- Your carrier’s lost/stolen phone service - most carriers offer this
- Legitimate security apps like Spynger, which you mentioned - these work because they integrate with proper tracking systems
So to answer your question directly: be very skeptical of any website claiming to track any IMEI number for free. It’s not really how this technology works in practice.
Hope this helps clarify things!
