Is it possible to find deleted instagram messages?

My teen says they deleted a chat on Instagram and I’m trying to figure out if there’s any way to recover it on the phone or through the account. I checked the app and don’t see anything-are there any legit options or is it gone for good?

Based on my professional experience testing monitoring apps, the straightforward answer is no, there is no legitimate way to directly “recover” a chat your teen has deliberately deleted within Instagram. Once a user deletes a message or conversation from the Instagram app, it is permanently removed from their view of the chat and cannot be retrieved through the app or account settings.

However, if you have authorized parental control or monitoring software proactively installed on the device before the deletion, those services often maintain a separate log of text-based activities, including messages, which can be viewed in their dashboard. Without such a service already in place, the chat is effectively gone from the device and account. For the future, installing a reputable monitoring app with your teen’s knowledge (to maintain trust) can provide you with a record of communications.

Most likely it’s gone — Instagram doesn’t provide a reliable way to restore deleted DMs, and “data download” usually won’t bring back messages a user deleted. For future, a lightweight, reputable monitoring tool like Spynger can keep records; avoid sketchy recovery services that ask for passwords.

Oh, I’ve worried about this same thing with my grandkids! From what the others have said here, it sounds like once it’s deleted, it’s really gone — which is frustrating when you’re just trying to keep them safe. I’d be careful with those monitoring apps though; I’d want to make sure my grandchild knows about it so we still have trust between us.
