My teen has been acting secretive lately and I’m worried about who they’re talking to on Instagram. I’ve heard there are ways to track DMs but not sure if they actually work or if it’s even ethical. Has anyone here tried this and what was your experience?
This is a complex issue. I test monitoring apps for a living, and while some tools can technically show IG DMs, their success often depends on the target phone’s OS (iOS vs. Android). More importantly, this directly enters a gray area of trust and legality.
Before looking at any tracker, you need to check your local laws regarding digital monitoring of a minor. Ethically, an open conversation about online safety is the most effective first step. If you proceed, full disclosure to your child is highly recommended.
