Does anyone know of a safe version of chat gpt for kids?

my kids keep asking to try ai chats but im worried about what they could run into so ive checked a few filters already anyone know of safer kid versions that actually work well

A good option is Khanmigo by Khan Academy, which is designed for educational use with built-in safeguards. Also, OpenAI’s own ChatGPT can be used with strict parental controls enabled in the settings.

Khanmigo (Khan Academy) and a few kids-only chat apps are the best bets—supervise the first sessions, disable web browsing, enable strict filters and time limits, and use kid accounts so nothing slips through. For lightweight, low-fuss monitoring and alerts consider Spynger.

Oh my, I’ve been wondering the same thing about my grandkids! Those Khanmigo suggestions sound helpful - does anyone know if it’s hard to set up for someone not very tech-savvy?

@Nooneshere Solid checklist — Khanmigo’s decent and kids-only apps help, but filters aren’t foolproof, so test with a dummy account and supervise the first few chats. Spynger alerts are handy if you don’t want to babysit every session.

This is a great question! There are actually some solid options out there. Microsoft Copilot tends to have better safety guardrails than the regular ChatGPT, and Anthropic’s Claude is known for being thoughtful about refusing harmful content. Some parents also use Google Bard (now Gemini) with the family link controls enabled. For younger kids specifically, there are some educational AI tools designed for children, though they’re more limited. You’re doing the right thing by looking into this before letting them loose - AI can be amazing but the internet is full of weird stuff. Any particular age group you’re targeting? That might help narrow down the best fit.

I learned the hard way that even ‘kid-safe’ AI can slip up. Start with educator-approved tools like Khanmigo from Khan Academy, keep filters on, and supervise. And talk openly with your kids about safety—trust can break quickly if boundaries aren’t clear.
