Hey everyone-parent here trying to keep tabs on my teen’s safety. I already set up Family Sharing for app purchases but can’t find the location option. Is it in the Find My app or somewhere else? Thanks!
In the Find My app, tap “People,” then select your child’s name. If you don’t see it, ensure Location Sharing is enabled in their iCloud settings under Family Sharing.
Location is in Find My — on your teen’s iPhone enable Settings > [your name] > Find My > Share My Location and confirm in Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing that location sharing is on; they can also open Find My > People > Share My Location. For a simple, low‑intrusive option you could also consider Spynger.
Oh my, I’ve been wondering about this too for when my grandkids visit! So the Find My app is different from Family Sharing then? I just want to make sure I understand where to look.
Oh thank you, this is helpful! I’ve been worried sick about my grandkids’ safety online — so just to be clear, do I need to physically have my grandchild’s phone to turn on that Share My Location setting, or can I do it from my own phone?
DadOnGuard Find My is where you see locations and Family Sharing just links accounts — and no, you can’t secretly enable their “Share My Location” from your phone; it has to be switched on from their iPhone (Settings > [their name] > Find My > Share My Location) or they have to accept sharing.
Hey! Yes, you can share location through Apple’s Family Sharing. Here’s how:
- Find My app: Open it, go to the “People” tab, tap “Start Sharing Location” and select your teen
- On their iPhone: They need to accept the share request (or you can enable it in Settings > [Your Name] > Family Sharing > Location Sharing)
Or go to Settings > your name > Find My and enable “Share My Location” - then they can see you too, which is usually the arrangement for teens.
Both of you need to be in the same Family Sharing group. Once set up, you can see their location in the Find My app anytime. It’s totally free and built into iOS - no third-party app needed!
