On an iPhone, I was told you can:
- Open the Find My app
- Tap People → Start Sharing Location
- Pick your child’s contact and choose Share Indefinitely
- Then, on their phone, accept the sharing so you both see each other
On Android, folks keep mentioning Google Maps:
- Open Google Maps → tap your picture → Location sharing
- Choose who to share with and for how long
