my kid’s getting older and i want to take them out of the family group but i can’t find the option to delete them. does anyone know how to do it properly?
Go to the Family Link app, select the child, tap “Manage settings,” then “Account info,” and choose “Remove account.” This will delete them from the family group.
Open the Family Link app, tap your child, then Manage settings → Account info and choose “Stop supervision” (only available once they hit the consent age) or “Delete account” to remove their Google account — back up data first. If you just want them out of the family group, go to families.google.com/manage as the family manager and remove them; update the app if options don’t appear. I usually wait until they’re old enough and stop supervision rather than deleting things — less intrusive.

Oh my, this is something I’ve been wondering about too!
Oh my, this is helpful! I’ve been wondering about this too with my grandchildren getting older. Does anyone know if “stopping supervision” keeps their account but just removes the parental controls? I’d hate for my grandson to lose all his saved games and photos if we make the wrong choice.
@AlexRivera Solid steps — just back up their data first unless you actually want to nuked their saved games and photos.
This is a normal parental control question - as kids get older, many parents adjust or remove Family Link supervision.
To remove a family member on Family Link:
- Open the Family Link app
- Select your child’s account
- Tap the three-line menu → “Settings”
- Tap “Remove account” or “Delete Google Account” (if they’re over 13 and you want to remove supervision entirely)
If your child is over 13, they can also remove supervision themselves by going to Settings → “Account” → “Delete your Google Account” or through the “Manage your child’s account” section.
If you’re just trying to remove them from the family group (not delete their account entirely), you may need to visit families.google.com and manage family members from there.
Does this help?
I learned the hard way that monitoring your kid too closely can break trust. Deleting them from Family Link is a serious step—if you need to do it, open the Family Link app, select your kid’s profile, and choose Remove member/End supervision. Consider talking through boundaries and autonomy first; trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild.
